Boven op de berg keek ik om me heen en zag van alles. De bergen onder een laag witte magie, bomen die deels verdwenen in de opstuivende sneeuw en af en toe een skiër die over het pad sjeesde. In mijn hoofd zag ik de compositie al voor me. Het skipad leidde het oog omhoog, richting de bergen. Gelaagdheid, iets wat vaker terugkomt in mijn reisfotografie en mij ruimte geeft om meerdere dieptes te laten ontstaan.
 
Het was een rustig zijpad. Heel af en toe kwam er iemand langs. En precies op zo’n moment zag ik de skiër aankomen en dacht: nu of nooit. De compositie had ik al gezien, nu was het wachten op het juiste moment. En 'click'.
 
Fotografie is soms niets meer dan op de juiste plek zijn. Een vluchtig moment vastleggen dat anders verloren was gegaan in de tijd. Een foto die ik waarschijnlijk nooit had gemaakt als ik mijn camera niet toevallig bij me had gehad tijdens het skiën.

At the top of the mountain, I looked around and saw so much. The mountains covered in a layer of white magic, trees partly disappearing in the drifting snow, and now and then a skier rushing down the path. In my mind, I already saw the composition. The ski track guided the eye upward, towards the mountains. Layering, something that often returns in my travel photography, giving me space to let multiple depths unfold.
 
It was a quiet side trail. Every now and then someone would pass by. And at just the right moment, I saw a skier approaching and thought: now or never. I had already seen the composition, now it was just about waiting for the right moment. And 'click'.
 
Photography is sometimes nothing more than being in the right place. Capturing a fleeting moment that otherwise would have been lost in time. A photograph I probably would never have made if I hadn’t happened to have my camera with me while skiing.
